Imelda Jasmine Saenz
As a portrait painter, my work primarily focuses on the faces of the human figure with the intention of showing the authenticity of self-image. I aim to bring attention to the natural beauty of skin textures and variations instead of what the media today puts out as the 'perfect' or 'ideal' face and texture. Through my work, I aim to rebrand the word "perfection" as it deals with societal standards. When looking for references and posing my sitter, I try to make sure they have blank expressions so I can capture more than just their outward emotion. I aim to capture the warm glow that naturally entices the viewer towards portraiture. My desire and goal is for the audience to walk away from my work and feel warmth.
